We use the Creative Curriculum in our instruction, which focuses on each child’s development in four areas:
- Social/Emotional
- Cognitive
- Language
- Physical
With this curriculum as a guide, we provide learning opportunities where kids can sharpen their ability to use their senses as well as take in new information. We provide a variety of tasks and exercises that focus on these four areas of development. We assist them to think creatively, connect with others, communicate effectively, and improve their hands and eye coordination and fine motor skills by allowing them to use scissors, paint brushes, and pencils when doing art projects. Children enjoy gross motor activities that involve dancing. That is why we have collaborated with Dance Together® to have a dance and music class once a week to help children improve their social interaction, music, and gross motor skills.
What Is the Creative Curriculum?
The Creative Curriculum is a research-based approach to early childhood education that emphasizes hands-on, experiential learning. It supports four primary areas of development—social/emotional, cognitive, language, and physical. Activities are designed to stimulate children’s curiosity, foster independence, and help them make sense of the world through active engagement.
Benefits of a Curriculum-Guided Program
A child’s earliest years are full of potential. Providing a structured yet nurturing environment during this stage promotes healthy development across multiple areas. When guided by a proven educational framework, children are more likely to develop social confidence, communication skills, physical coordination, and problem-solving abilities. Programs that focus on early childhood education in Virginia give children the freedom to explore while offering clear direction to help them grow.
